Each year, we ask our medical teams…

“What equipment, if purchased today, would have the biggest impact on the quality of care delivered to patients in our region?”

These essential items form the heart of our Fund-A-Need portion of the Charity Classic evening program, where generous individuals create real-world change for patients, families, and neighbours right here in the North Okanagan.

This year, the VJH Foundation Charity Classic helped purchase a state-of-the-art Orthopedic Surgery Table. With six orthopedic surgeons performing over 600 hip surgeries annually, this advanced table enables less invasive routine procedures — like total hip replacements — as well as urgent, life-saving hip and femur fracture surgeries.

In addition to the orthopedic table, this generous community helped purchase a Neoprobe Gamma Detection System to precisely locate cancerous tissue during surgery, a Masimo SedLine to monitor brain activity and ensure safe anesthesia levels, as well as Vital Signs Machines, oxygen concentrators, and mobility aids.

Orthopedic Surgery Table

(1 table = $192,000)

At Vernon Jubilee Hospital, something remarkable is happening.

With just six orthopedic surgeons, VJH performed 609 hip surgeries last year — averaging over 100 per surgeon. That makes our dedicated team one of the busiest and most efficient in the region, outperforming much larger regional centres.

To continue delivering these exceptional results, our surgeons needed a state-of-the-art orthopedic surgery table.

The table’s advanced leg-positioning system enables less invasive routine procedures — like total hip replacement surgery — as well as life-saving hip and femur fracture surgeries.

    This handheld surgical device accurately locates cancerous tissue during surgery. The result? Less invasive procedures, lower complication rates, and better patient outcomes. 

  • Sci-Fit Recumbent Stepper $9,400 | Quantity = 1

    This machine provides a safe, joint-friendly way for patients to maintain mobility, function and independence (for seniors and those recovering from surgery).

  • Vital Signs Machine $5,800 | Quantity = 2

    Vital signs machines are essential for the continuous monitoring of patients’ heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and temperature, helping healthcare professionals quickly assess patients’ conditions and identify changes.

  • Oxygen Concentrator $2,570 | Quantity = 10

    When a patient is struggling to breathe, this machine provides a steady flow of purified oxygen — pulled directly from the surrounding room air — and offers a safe alternative to O2 tanks in a high-risk fire environment, during MRI scans, and for active/ambulatory patients.

  • Masimo SedLine $6,710 | Quantity = 2

    This equipment monitors a patient's brain activity during surgery to ensure safe, appropriate sedation while reducing the risks of overmedication and related complications.

  • Toe Brachial Pressure Index Machine $3,070 Quantity = 1

    Considered the gold standard for assessing arterial insufficiency, this machine detects peripheral artery disease (PAD), bypasses stiff, calcified ankle arteries in diabetic patients, and accurately predicts how successfully lower-extremity wounds will heal.

  • Portable Suction $1,990 | Quantity = 4

    This equipment maintains clear patient airways and prevents equipment contamination by safely collecting and containing infectious fluids during urgent response.

  • Folding 2-Wheeled Walkers $660 Quantity = 8
