Fund-A-Need 2025

Charity Classic is the North Okanagan’s premier golf tournament, offering an unforgettable day of golf, food, prizes and shared moments with fellow supporters. One of the things that makes this day so special is that everyone is here for the same reason – to transform healthcare in our community.

Each year, we ask our medical teams “what equipment, if purchased today, would have the biggest impact on the quality of care delivered to patients in our region?” These items then form our Fund-A Need portion of the evening program, where people through their amazing generosity create a real-world impact for friends, family and neighbours in our community.

From life-saving blood infusers to simple equipment that is the lifeline of healthcare, here are some of the most urgently needed items that have been identified this year:

Belmont Rapid Infuser

(2 machines X $65,000 each)

When it’s an emergency, every second counts.

When a patient experiences a medical emergency called hemorrhagic shock, they lose blood at a rapid rate, their blood pressure drops dangerously low, and they are at risk of developing hypothermia. Things can turn deadly if that patient doesn’t get the critical intervention they need – warmed fluids, fast!

That’s where Belmont Rapid Infusers come in.

This life-saving equipment quickly stabilizes patients by delivering warmed fluids at high flow rates up to 750 ml per minute – which means an average bag of blood is delivered in two-three minutes.

The faster the patient can be stabilized, the better chance they have of surviving life-threatening emergencies.

Help us bring two new Belmont Rapid Infusers to Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

  • Lucas Chest Compression System $26,500 | Quantity = 1

When a patient is unresponsive or not breathing, this system is an alternative to manual CPR, helping healthcare providers to maintain chest compressions at a fixed rate through difficult transport conditions and eliminates the physical strain on the person performing CPR.

  • External Pacemaker $6,000 | Quantity = 1

When a patient has an irregular or slow heartbeat, an external pacemaker regulates heart rhythm by delivering controlled electrical pulses through the chest in a temporary, non-invasive way.

  • Vital Signs Machine $5,500 | Quantity = 5

Vital signs machines are essential for the continuous monitoring of patients’ heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and temperature, helping healthcare professionals quickly assess patients’ conditions and identify changes.

  • Atmosair 9000X Mattress $1,200 | Quantity = 2

A non-powered hybrid mattress designed to provide reactive pressure redistribution and prevent and treat pressure injuries.  It is particularly important for patients with limited mobility and those who can't change position easily.

  • Roho Sectional Mattress Overlay $1,200 | Quantity = 1

A non-powered hybrid mattress overlay that provides reactive pressure redistribution and prevents and treats pressure injuries.  It is particularly important for patients with limited mobility and those who can't change position easily.

  • Otoscope $1,300 | Quantity = 1

Having an otoscope at hand allows healthcare professionals to quickly and easily examine the ear canal and eardrum, accelerating the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of conditions.  It also supports on-going patient monitoring, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

  • Wheelchair $3,300 | Quantity = 1

Wheelchairs are crucial in hospitals for patient mobility, promoting independence, and facilitating rehabilitation. They transport patients, assist with recovery, and enable participation in therapy. Wheelchairs also play a vital role in preventing complications like pressure sores and muscle atrophy.

  • Event Monitor $2,200 | Quantity = 6

Event monitors are small, portable devices that record heart rhythm over an extended period. They help doctors diagnose heart rhythm abnormalities (arrhythmias) that may not be detected during a standard ECG.
