The Callisto Eye Helps Patients Throughout the North Okanagan

Thanks to the generosity of VJH Foundation donors, the Lions Vision Centre in Armstrong received state-of-the-art technology in early 2016 benefiting cataract patients throughout the North Okanagan and Shuswap.The $100,000 Callisto Eye System is a computer assisted integrated cataract surgery system, linking diagnostic equipment with surgical instruments to enhance efficiency and improve surgical safety.calisto-eye-surgeryThe system comprises a microscope and live video touch screen providing graphical visual aids to help ensure precise measurements, alignment, incisions and placement of lenses during surgery.Digital overlays help guide the surgeon during the procedure, while the operating team can follow the course of the surgery on the video screen, enabling efficient preparation for the next steps in the process.Last year, 2,407 surgeries were performed at Lions Vision Centre.
