Japanese Women’s Auxiliary supports Light A Bulb

In the North Okanagan, Japaneseculture and heritage has deep roots, dating back many decades. Vernon Japanese Women’sAuxiliary, or Fujinkai, is an integral part of the Japanese community.

The Vernon Japanese Women’sAuxiliary formed in the late 1930’s, shortly after the Vernon Japanese Hall onBella Vista Road was built. Their mission is to keep Japanese culture alive andfor Japanese women to feel a sense of community. They hold many publicfunctions to raise funds, including their bazaars and festivals.

This year, the Vernon JapaneseWomen’s Auxiliary has given $1,000 to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation’sLight A Bulb Campaign. This gift represents the Auxiliary’s 16thdonation since 1995.

“The Japanese community has usedthe hospital in one way or another and the hospital is an important part ofour, or anyone’s lives,” says Irene Oizumi, member of the Vernon JapaneseWomen’s Auxiliary. “This is a way to give back to the Vernon community for allof the support they have given us.”
