TELUS Grants VJH Foundation $9,600 for Trauma Training

A $9,600 grant to Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation from TELUS Community Grants will help enhance trauma care at Vernon Jubilee Hospital and throughout Interior Health.  Steve Jenkins GM, Interior South BC TELUS - Customer Solutions Delivery, shared "TELUS is proud to continue our relationship with Vernon Jubilee Hospital‎. We believe it is important to "give where we live" and this donation will benefit the community through training of local health care professionals"The ‘Emergency Room Train the Trainer Project,’ will establish a team of twelve qualified registered nurse trainers who will deliver “gold standard” training programs that teach advanced skills which are vital in the first few minutes of trauma care.Funding for staff education and training is very limited at VJH, as available funds are directed to patient care which is always the area of greatest need.  Understanding the important role advanced education plays in enhanced healthcare outcomes, VJH Foundation financially assists specialized hospital training opportunities whenever possible.“We are pleased to work with hospital staff to better prepare health care professionals with advanced life support knowledge to care for patients in traumatic life-threatening situations,” said Elise Allan, President of VJH Foundation.Courses will include skill development to quickly and efficiently identify life-threatening injuries, as well as conduct comprehensive patient assessment and enhanced medical interventions.“Rapid response is critical to achieving better outcomes for patients of all ages,” said Tina Coletti, Emergency Room Manager at VJH.“Our partnership with VJH Foundation and TELUS will have a long-lasting impact on our community, as the funds will qualify instructors who will then train others.  It is an effective and efficient way to improve advanced skills for many other healthcare professionals well into the future.”The first of four courses of the ‘Emergency Room Train the Trainer Project’ will begin in the New Year thanks to the generosity of TELUS.
