“The new Patient Care Tower will be a state-of-the-art facility we all can be proud of. The new expanded units will be welcomed by physicians, healthcare staff and the public at large.”
John Cullen,
Manager ACC & ER
Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH) was originally built in 1947, and has become well-known for an outstanding level of patient care.
However, in recent years, the hospital has grown beyond its existing structure. Tired cramped spaces, spatial confinements, gurneys in hallways, cupboard-sized workspaces, and overflowing storage spaces have made working conditions difficult. While the dedicated staff continue to provide the high level of care they’re known for, a new Patient Care facility is desperately needed.
October 2009
Construction of the new Tower is well underway.
1st floor – Emergency, over 31,000 visits per year
2nd floor – Ambulatory Care, 23,000 examination procedures per year
3rd floor – Surgery
4th floor – Maternal/Child, nearly 700 children born per year
5th floor – Intensive & Cardiac Care, over 1000 patients admitted per year
6th & 7th floors - Shelled in for future use
Vernon Jubilee Hospital soon will be a satellite site for the new UBC Okanagan Medical Program scheduled to begin in 2011. The Program will train doctors in the Okanagan for the first time in BC history, and VJH will offer clinical ‘classrooms’ for physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals. The new Tower will help to encourage graduates of the program to stay in the community by giving them an opportunity to practice in state-of-the-art facilities.
